I think I can reasonably say that I am one of the unluckiest people I know. I seem to always get handed the short end of the stick for whatever reason, which definitely makes it hard to believe that luck is real or at least real enough for everyone to get a chance at it. Even my horoscope can't convince me otherwise sometimes.
But one thing I do believe is that everyone has an opportunity to make their own luck. Take it from me: sitting around waiting for something to happen isn’t going to make you lucky. But putting in the work to make things happen for yourself will.

Think of it this way: If you really wanted a job, one that would pay you twice as much and is a total upgrade from your current job, would you cross your fingers and hope it falls into your lap? Of course not! You would go out and network, apply with a kick-ass resumé, and make yourself seem like the company’s only option for this awesome job.
That’s the difference between being lucky and making your own luck.
This approach doesn’t always work, no matter how much effort you put in, but when you believe in making your own luck, you are more receptive to welcoming new opportunities into your life. And while it may seem like a total surprise to you to get this amazing job, you know in the back of your mind that all that time spent beefing up your social profiles and getting to know the company is what helped pave the road to this good fortune.
For some of us, myself included, I know that luck is mostly on you, but it can also be a gift from astrology, the Universe, or whatever you believe in.
I know this sounds weird, but just hear me out. Luck is luck for a reason; it’s meant to be a little bit of a surprise and a little bit of a blessing.
So even if you’re the type of person to go out there and make your own luck, there might still be a part of you that knows some sliver of your success was because of something bigger than you. And whether you believe that luck is all in the stars or not, this “something bigger” is what keeps us hopeful for the next time we have the opportunity for luck.
