Oh my.

The only thing more surreal than a painting by well-known artist Salvador Dalí? How about a cookbook with recipes as unreal as any image the surrealist ever created?

Though Dalí was a renowned visual artist, filmmaker, and cinematography collaborator, there was a lesser-known aspect of his personality that he absolutely adored: that of a chef.

In 1973, Dalí created a cookbook by the name of Les diners de Gala, which the publisher, Taschen, just released information about regarding a re-printing for the first time since its original release.

People are understandably getting pretty stoked about it, since rare, original printings of this book sell online anywhere from about $700 to $,1700

Dalí himself chose the recipes and created the bizarre, erotic artistic pictures of the food stuffs that went into this work, making it possibly one of the most unique cookbooks ever created. Dalí and his wife/muse Gala threw renowned dinner parties that went beyond opulence, and his cookbook is filled to the brim with imaginative recipes that have been approved by the surrealist himself.

Be prepared to witness Dalí’s creative, sensual art alongside his lavish, almost unrealistic recipes.

A tower of crayfish, anyone? That’s just another Tuesday for Dalí. He even adds in commentary throughout the book, throwing in his own opinion on the perfect usage of certain dishes, which can get downright specific. The book contains a ton of embellishments for making your dinners as exquisite as possible, ranging anywhere from appetizers to aphrodisiacs and beyond.

Dalí may have been an artist, but he loved the art of cooking, even once referring to it as, “the most delicate symbol of true civilization.” His book is proof of his devotion to palette, but it’s not for those who want to restrict their experience in the slightest.

That means, diet-conscience eaters, he doesn’t have anything to offer you.

Les diners de Gala is uniquely devoted to the pleasures of taste. If you are a disciple of one of those calorie-counters who turns the joys of eating into a form of punishment,” Dalí writes by way of introduction, “close this book at once; it is too lively, too aggressive, and far too impertinent for you.”

That being said, the recipes inside may be wonderful, but any dieting art collectors may want to get this book anyway if they're a huge surrealist fan.

The latest print release is going to be sold for $59.99 from the publisher, and you can pre-order directly from them. If you're an Amazon Prime customer, then you’re getting the deal of a lifetime, because this book is available for only $35.99 on pre-order.
