The star signs have a dark side, too.
Usually, you'll come across zodiac articles that extol each star sign's unique personality perks. We love the way Libras turn into amazing communicators, and how creative Aquarius people can be.
We love hearing about our good sides, because in reality, we all have great traits that really do deserve to be celebrated. Even if it's something as simple as hearing how awesome a star sign is at being a loyal friend or a passionate lover we are, it's great.
But we have to even things out. For every good side, there's a bad side to each star sign. Each zodiac sign has its own unique quirks and personalities, but for every positive trait you can get from your star sign, you can also get a negative trait associated with it.
For example, we all know that Aries tend to be very brave, but can veer off into the territory of aggression. We also know that Pisceans tend to be very sympathetic and kind, but end up crying at the drop of a hat if they aren't too aware of their emotions.
Each sign has its own little emotional baggage associated with it, and to a point, we have to love it because it makes us all different.
Unfortunately, there's a certain moment when those traits stop being lovable and start being a nuisance. This is where personality disorders step in.
The zodiac naturally causes us to be "at risk" for certain personality traits that aren't exactly stellar. Personality disorders are basically what happen when your negative personality traits start getting in the way of actually living a healthy, normal life. In certain cases, there may also be a biological component to them that makes them particularly hard to come by.
Though personality disorders can happen to every star sign, these particular disorders just naturally jive with their star sign's energy.
It's no secret that Aries tend to be the most aggressive star sign out there, and that often can come out in the form of explosive aggression. With Intermittent Explosive Disorder, the person who suffers from it is known for having terrifying bursts of rage that are very disproportionate to the actual situation at hand. Sound familiar, Aries?
The biggest "dark trait" that a Taurus will often have is their stubbornness. They have a way they do things, and heaven help the poor soul who tries to argue a new method with a Taurus. Their rigid behavior often puts them at risk for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which tends to focus in on keeping things in line. A Taurus who doesn't get their way may get panicky, just like people who have OCD.
Gemini can't stand to be alone for too long — even their star sign is paired up on its own! Their constant need for love, reassurance, and other people often leads them to get involved in codependent relationships. Gemini, in this sense, may quickly shirk off duties that would allow them to lead an independent life in favor of someone else taking care of them. Not a good look, Gemini. Not a good look at all!
Much like an anxious Scorpio, Cancers tend to build walls up around themselves. Unlike Scorpios, who do it out of fear of rejection, Cancers tend to do it because they are legitimately worried that someone's out to hurt them. One could say they can get... paranoid! See where we're going with this yet? Mellow out, Cancer; not everyone's out to get you.
Leos are naturally prideful people, and they have no problem thinking that they are a bit better than others. Unfortunately, they tend to fall in love with themselves to the point that they can develop Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Narcissists tend to think they're better than everyone else, that they're entitled to special treatment, and that people should do whatever they say. If you've been with a Leo, you may have noticed a trait or two of narcissism already.
Ever seen a Virgo during a breakup? They can become mean, bitter, and very negative people, especially when it deals with someone leaving them. This is a lot like Borderline Personality Disorder, which basically makes every relationship a self-fulfilling prophecy. They can't stand being alone, and they can get very manipulative to keep a person around. If you've been with a clingy Virgo, you'll definitely understand how bad it can get.
Libras can be overwhelmingly kind, and often don't see themselves for the gems they truly are. Their kind nature often comes with a high dose of modesty, and that means that they might not see themselves as deserving of joy, wealth, or even love. As a result, they may actually become victims of Self-Defeating Personality Disorder. In many cases, a Libra's biggest foe is himself.
Scorpio's natural secretive and mysterious nature tends to make it way too easy to build up walls around itself. With Avoidant Personality Disorder, this is taken to a whole new level. They will avoid social situations, refuse to talk to anyone, and generally clam up due to feelings of inadequacy or fear. Despite all this, they do want to be close to others. Open up a bit, Scorpio. Not everyone is out to get you.
Sagittarius people love to take a risk, and often have a foolhardy sense to them that can drive more responsible star signs insane. While they're incredibly charming, they can at times use this charm for darker roles. Ever the rebellious type, Sagittarius people might fall into Antisocial Personality Disorder if they decide that the rules of common decency shouldn't apply to them.
Perfectionism Disorder is a very specific kind of OCD, and it's one that often has to do with one's work ethic. Much like Taurus, Capricorns are very stubborn — but their rigid behavior tends to be work-related. Hardworking Capricorns can easily get into a panic if their work isn't sparkling with perfection, and as a result, they may develop an anxiety disorder related to their need for everything to be perfect.
If there's a star sign more creative than Aquarius, we're not sure who it could be. Unfortunately, this super-eccentric sign often walks a fine line between sanity and lunacy. When they're about to cross that line, they may end up becoming Schizotypal. Schizotypal people tend to have odd beliefs about the way the world works, including delusions about being able to read others' minds. If you've ever seen an Aquarius get lost in their own creative sides, you'll understand why this may be so common with them.
Pisces are very sensitive, especially to what others think of them. As a result, they often get addicted to having others pay attention to them. When you couple that with their tendency of being highly suggestible and prone to getting lost in their own little worlds, you get a perfect recipe for Histrionic Personality Disorder. Basically, these little fish tend to be attention addicts in every sense of the word.
