If you’ve been on the giving end of a blow job, you’ve likely encountered the dreaded gag reflex. It can sneak up on you when you least expect it. But do guys like when you gag?

There you are bobbing away. You aren’t doing anything fancy, not even trying to deep throat, and then it pops up out of nowhere: "Guuhhhaaaa! Guuaahhhhh!"

Your eyes water, your abdominal muscles tighten, and your face flushes red with embarrassment. You hope and pray you don’t vomit all over the penis in front of you ... but then your gag reflex kicks in.

Do guys like when you gag?

Gagging can be a good thing, depending on how you and your partner feel about it.

Getting a girl to gag does not always turn boys off or people off.

But there's no altruism about real men liking or disliking blow jobs.

It all depends on the person. That's why asking for consent and talking openly about your likes and dislikes with a sex partner is so crucial.

What is the gag reflex?

The gag reflex, also known as the pharyngeal reflex or laryngeal spasm, is an involuntary contraction at the back of the throat caused by something touching the area from top-back of your mouth and your throat. It is intended as a survival mechanism to keep you from choking by coughing up and then ejecting a foreign object.

Essentially, it's what occurs when you gag easily. For some, it's a physical sensation, but for others, it's caused by a mental trigger.

Sex advice websites offer countless articles trying to teach us how to get rid of the gag reflex when giving a blow job. Gagging, after all, is one of the worst things that can happen while performing fellatio, right?

While there are techniques you can use to suppress your gag reflex, have you ever considered that gagging while giving a BJ can sometimes be a good thing?

If you otherwise enjoy giving head but are mortified when you gag simply because you believe it grosses out your partner — think again.

There is a good chance your partner may think it’s hot.

No joke.

A little gagging produces desirable physical effects, like increased saliva and pleasant feeling on the head of the penis.

Gagging while giving a blow job also has its mental benefits for the receiver.

It’s a bit of an ego boost to know that someone is so hungry for you they are gobbling you up faster than they can handle it.

Or that your penis is so large it’s too much for even the most skilled fellator.

Many receivers also find the teary eyed, smeared mascara look irresistibly sexy.

That ego boost isn’t just reserved for receivers who are men, either.

I’m a just as much a receiver when I’m wearing my strap-on. I love being on the receiving end of a good blow job.

While I can’t actually feel the physical sensations when a cute boy or girl is down there, I certainly do find the gagging and penis worship a huge turn-on.

In the video below, my husband Ken Melvoin-Berg and I talk about gagging from both a giver and receivers point of view.

If you think gagging during oral is always cause for embarrassment, consider the view from the person on the other side of the blow job.

You might just be the hottest thing ever choking on that huge penis!

* I want to put a disclaimer in here about consent. Gagging on a man's penis during a blow job is hot if you, as the giver, want to gag on it.

Being coerced or forced to do something that makes you feel uncomfortable is never enjoyable or acceptable.

**Also, yes — gagging can be taken to the next level in Roman Showers, Rainbow Play or Emetophilia (sexual arousal from vomiting, or watching others vomit) — but that’s an entirely different article!
