Psychologist Scott Frankowski has developed a test that can measure the need for drama, published earlier this year in the journal Personality and Individual Differences.
The abstract of the study reads, "We developed and tested a novel scale to measure Need for Drama (NFD), a compound maladaptive personality trait in which people impulsively manipulate others from a position of victimhood."
Frankowski and his team of researchers found that NFD consists of interpersonal manipulation, impulsive outspokenness, and a tendency to think of themselves as a victim.
In addition, the stereotypical image of a drama queen being exclusively female is incorrect, as both men and women may have an overwhelming need for drama.
The brief test used statements such as "I say or do things just to see how others react" and "People often talk about me behind my back" to determine the level of drama queen in anyone.
