Fatherhood Has Changed

This guy gets it SO right.

There's no question that the parenting methods we use today are pretty different from what our parents were once used to. Some things just don't fly anymore. Whenever I remember all of the stories my mother would tell me about her childhood in Haiti, I can't help but think just how much things have changed.

Gone are the days when talking back in class meant getting tapped with a ruler on the back of your hand, In their place are rules that give our kids a lot more freedom.

One dad tackles modern day parenting in an epic way. And yes, the struggle is as real as ever.

Appropriately titled "How Fatherhood Has Changed In The Last 100 Years", this father highlights the many changes that come with our busy lives getting, well ... busier. Not only does he list 11 ways that fathers weren't appreciated in the 1900s, he shows how history is basically repeating itself.

I have to say that the second to last one really hit home for me:

"In 1900, a father came home from work to find his wife and children at the supper table. Today, a father comes home to a note: 'Jimmy's at baseball, Cindy's at gymnastics, I'm at [the] gym, Pizza in the fridge.'"

I think this applies to moms and dads everywhere. We're so glued to technology today that we never really stop and think about the distance it creates between us. Can you honestly remember the last time you sat down for dinner with your family and actually stayed at the table, just talking?

We take this for granted way too much. This guy definitely deserves an award for being the father of the year.

Parenting, you're doing it right.
