These stars took mom and pop to court.
We've had a lawsuit happy culture. People sue restaurants for having coffee that's too hot, they sue for warning labels not being large enough, whatever crazy thing you can think of, somebody has sued over it.
People even sue family members, which has to be the most uncomfortable thing ever. You don't sue somebody and then invite them over for the holidays. Usually, when I hear about someone suing one of their own family members, I always think that there must have been a better way. Especially since Thanksgiving dinner is already awkward for most of us as it is.
The only time I don't think that is when I hear about a child actor suing their parents. Parents of child actors are typically considered to be awful. They take advantage of their talented kid and reap in the rewards. Often times, they forget to save some of the rewards for the kid's future, which often leads to some uncomfortable court appearances in addition to a general lack of a childhood to begin with. Here's a list of celebs that sued the pants off their parents!
1. Mimi Gibson
When she turned 18, child star Mimi Gibson found out that her mom had spent her fortune.
2. Leighton Meester
When Leighton Meester found out that the money she was sending home for her brother's medical expenses weren't being spent on the bills, she took her mom to court. Her mom sued back, but the judge ruled in Leighton's favor because "seriously, that's messed up."
3. Shirley Temple
Like most child actors of the time, Shirley Temple was shocked to find out that her parents hadn't saved any of the money that she had earned. Which really stings, considering it was millions of dollars.
4. Gary Coleman
Another child actor whose parents misspent his fortune, Gary Coleman had to tell his parents what he was talking about.
5. Jackie Coogan
Jackie Coogan's parents tried to keep all of his earnings, claiming that children have no right to the money they make before becoming an adult. As a result, 15 percent of all earnings from a child actor must be placed in a trust fund until they are 18.
6. Kobe Bryant
The basketball star sued his parents to prevent them from selling memorabilia from his career that he claimed they stole from him. The case was settled out of court, mainly to prevent people from making "it was a real slam dunk" jokes when Kobe won.

11. The Kardashians

12. Aaron Carter
