We've all heard of a makeover, but a makeunder? Some of the best movies of all time have depicted characters in their grittiest forms. Christian Bale famously subsisted on a cup of coffee and a can of tuna a day to lose nearly 70 pounds for his role of Trevor Reznik in The Machinist, and Charlize Theron was almost unrecognizable as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the critically acclaimed Monster.
Both films went on to receive critical acclaim and a bevvy of awards, thanks in no small part to the dedication of their actors in mirroring the appearance of the characters they portrayed.
