Looking For The Land Of Sexual Freedom? We Found It!

Just do your thing, whatever it may be.

If monogamy isn't your thing, you might want to consider moving to the Trobriand Islands in the Solomon Sea.

On these beautiful islands, which are part of Papua New Guinea, the people don't ascribe to western ideas regarding marriage and sex, and premarital sex is not frowned upon. There are even dedicated love huts called 'bukumatula', where unmarried teenagers and their lovers can be intimate.

Unfortunately, condoms and other contraceptives are nowhere to be found in these huts. As a result, HIV/AIDS runs rampant among the islanders, who call it the 'sickness without medicine.'

Interestingly, the people also believe that there is no relationship between sex and pregnancy and that a baby is created by magic. "If a girl gets pregnant, her family keeps the baby, because, according to the local custom, men just help to open up the woman to pregnancy - the real father is a Baloma or spirit," says photographer Eric Lafforgue, who spent time amongst the locals.

Another quirky fact about the islanders – they are very proud people who do not extend their romantic customs to "outsiders". They especially dislike caucasian men, known among them as 'dim dim', because they perceive them to be a sign of ugliness and scruffiness.
