The cast bands together to defend their show, 'Devious Maids.'
The cast of Lifetime's hit show Devious Maids, and their executive producer, Eva Longoria, sit down to talk about their controversial start and how they've banded together to support each other as they start work on the second season in the May 2014 issue of Latina, which hits newsstands and Nook Newsstand on April 8, 2014.
Judy Reyes (Scrubs), Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty), Roselyn Sanchez (Without a Trace), Dania Ramirez (Heroes) and newcomer Edy Ganem found themselves swept up in an outpouring of controversy when Lifetime announced its new show about domestic workers, but the five actresses were all committed to telling the unique stories of these compelling characters, and to providing new opportunities to Latinas on-screen.
Judy Reyes on her initial reaction to the Devious Maids script: "My knee-jerk reaction was, 'Why the f**k does it have to be about maids?’' Latinos were defensive because we've been maligned in media. We've always played gardeners, gangbangers, maids and sluts in films that star white people. But this is not that. We're trying to represent these women with as much dignity and honesty as we can."
