Iranian Singer Takes Daring Step In Country That Bans LGBT Love

Let's give it up for Googoosh.

Iranian pop star Googoosh (aka Faegheh Atashin) recently released a touching new song from her album Ejaz. The song, titled Behesht (which translates as Heaven), is sweepingly beautiful and emotional.

But why is it a landmark moment for the Iranian LGBT community? The release of the song's accompaying video has made Googoosh the first Iranian pop star to speak out in support of the LGBT movement in her country. As it stands, gay and lesbian men and women in Iran can face the death penalty if convicted of being homosexual.

This video is as poignant as it is inspiring. And just because you might not speak Persian doesn't meant it won't speak to you. Love should be for all.
