Scandal star Kerry Washington is pregnant!
The stunning actress, 36, is expecting her first child with husband and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nnamdi Asomugha, 32. The parents-to-be began dating in summer 2012, keeping their relationship under the radar, and married in a super-private ceremony in June. Sources say Washington is about four months along, and that she couldn't be happier ... but don't expect her to talk about it! "I've had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it," Washington explained of her personal life to Glamour, "but I couldn't just turn around and say, 'I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.' So I just thought, 'Okay, no more.'"
What do we know about the mysterious Washington is pretty fascinating stuff. Check out these facts you probably didn't know about the stunning starlet behind Olivia Pope.
She's a smarty-pants.
Washington was born in the Bronx in 1977. Her mother Valerie is a professor and educational consultant, while her father Earl Washington is a real estate broker. As a child, the actress attended the Spence School in New York City, an elite private school for girls. Other notable alumni include Gwyneth Paltrow and Emmy Rossum. After graduating high school, Washington went on to receive degrees in anthropology and sociology from George Washington University.
Washington is a mix of nationalities.
Kerry's mother's family hails from Jamaica and her father's family comes from South Carolina. She is part African-American, English, Scottish and Native American.
She's been engaged before.
From 2003 to 2007, Washington dated fellow Bronx native and actor David Moscow—but she called off their engagement after turning 30. "Turning 30 was a time when I thought, 'Wait a second. How much of my life really reflects who I am and who I want to be?' I've learned more about myself since leaving that relationship," she has since stated. It's rumored she dated MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell, who turns 62 on Nov. 7, later in 2007.
She has connections to the music industry.
Washington co-directed and starred in rapper Common's music video for "I Want You," which also featured cameos by Alicia Keys and Kanye West.
Kerry Washington's life has a lot less, well, Scandal than Olivia Pope's.
"I actually live quietly," Washington admitted to The New York Post. "Work hard. Get bored easily. Don't drink. Who needs those empty calories? I watch what I eat. I train, do pilates."
She's got an adorable mutt to keep her company on set.
"My shih tzu mix 'shorkie' fills my life," she gushed. "Josie hangs out even when I'm filming. The crew holds her or, leashed so she doesn't jingle, she hides in a chair out of frame. Our costumer texts her on Twitter. Another's cell features her photo."
Washington loves souvenirs from the set.
She keeps a memento from every character she plays, whether it's a piece of furniture, clothing or a trinket.
If she wasn't a movie star, she may have been a Sea World employee!
Washington confessed that she "wanted to be the woman in the Shamu Show" when she was a kid. "You get to tell dolphins what to do! This is my dream," she told Jimmy Kimmel. However, something changed her mind: "AP Biology in high school was it," she confessed. "The joke in my family was that I was like, 'Forget the whale, I'll be onstage by myself!'"
