The Royal Christening of Prince George took place today, and it was every bit the spectacle you'd imagined. The sure-to-be-beautiful son of Prince William and Kate Middleton joined the Church of England in a pretty grand fashion ... and with a whole lot of cameras around! Here's the full scoop, including the skinny on the guest list, the royal baby's godparents (there are a lot of them!), and more.
Prince William is christening Prince George at the Chapel Royal at St. James Palace because of its close connection with his mother, the late Princess Diana. Diana's body was kept in the chapel for some time before her funeral, and holding the Royal Christening here is a moving tribute to her from William and a way of having her present.

Prince George has seven—yes, seven—godparents ... and none of those are Prince Harry or Pippa Middleton! So who got the honor? Friends! Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson and William van Cutsem were all longtime friends of William and Kate, while Julia Samuel was one of the late Princess Diana's best friends. Earl Grosvenor is the son of the Duke of Westminster. Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton is the principal private secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Zara Tindall, William's cousin, is the only member of the royal family to make the cut.
Yes, Prince George is a baby boy, but this is the Royal Christening—so the dude's wearing a dress. But it will raise far fewer eyebrows once you realize why: It's a handmade replica of the Honiton lace royal christening robe, the original of which dates back to 1841. Even cooler? Kate Middleton wore a cream ensemble (with a fascinator, natch) to match. Because of course she did.
Prince George will be baptized with water from the Jordan River in the Lily Font at the Chapel Royal. After the ceremony, everyone gets a slice of christening cake, made from a tier of the Royal Wedding cake!
The Guest List
The Prince of Wales, better known as Prince Charles, was obviously on the list, as were the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Harry, Kate's siblings James and Pippa Middleton, and the partners of the godparents.
Who was missing from the guest list? Prince Harry's girlfriend, Cressida Bonas. Harry and Bonas were rumored to be getting very serious very fast, with sources even insisting that he was gearing up to pop the question to the blond model. But her absence from the royal guest list implies that he's likely not putting a ring on it any time soon!
