Getting pregnant at a young age is terrifying. You're left to ask yourself questions like, "what are my parent's going to think?" "Will my boyfriend be supportive?" "How are my friends going to handle this?" And the last thing anyone in that situation needs is to be riding the subway or passing by a bus stop and see an ad shaming them for choosing to follow through with their pregnancy.
Embarrassing young parents isn't going to decrease the number of teen pregnancies, it's going to increase the number of abortions. They also don't need to sit through a television show chronicling the life of young mothers struggling with baby daddy drama or drug problems.
What young people need is more access to contraceptives and sex education; they need to know that they have someone to turn to when they find out they're pregnant who can provide them with useful information and assist them in taking the next step, whatever that may be.
What do you think? How should the message about teen pregnancy be spread?
