After 38 years together, Jim Nabors weds long-time partner Stan Cadwallader.

When a younger couple marries, it's the details that tend to steal the wedding spotlight: What dress did she choose? What color were the bridesmaids wearing? How did the band sound?

When you marry at 82, it's a different story. Jim Nabors—known for his role as Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show—wed Stan Cadwallader on Jan. 15 and explained their decision to Hawaii News Now, "It's pretty obvious that we had no rights as a couple, yet when you've been together 38 years, I think something's got to happen there, you've got to solidify something. And at my age, it's probably the best thing to do."

Nabors' words only reinforce the importance of legalizing gay marriage in every state. Had the couple not made their uninion official, despite 38 and growing years together, one partner may have been left walking a tricky financial line. Or worse; not being permitted to visit their loved one in the hospital or banned from receiving vital information about his health.

"My friend and I, my partner, we went through all of this 38 years ago," Nabors added. "So I mean, we made our vows and that was it.  It was to each other, but nevertheless, we were a couple."
