3. "Someone Like You" (Adele)
Adele cuts through you like a knife with this song, which is now considered a post-breakup anthem. "After I wrote it, I felt more at peace," she once said. "It set me free." Well, little did she know I think it set a lot of us free.
"I heard that you're settled down, that you found a girl, and you're married now. I heard that your dreams came true; Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you. Never mind, I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you, too. Don't forget me, I beg. I remember you said, "Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."
4. "Say Goodbye" (Chris Brown)
This one might be a bit unknown to some, but trust me when I say the lyrics will downright shake you. It's about those relationships that go on for way too long because you're comfortable and don't want to hurt the other person. And sometimes, those are the toughest ones to break.
"There's never a right time to say goodbye, but I gotta make the first move. ;Cause if I don't you gonna start hating me, 'cause I really don't feel the way I once felt about you. Girl it's not you, it's me. I kinda gotta figure out what I need. There's never a right time to say goodbye, and I know it's hard but I gotta do it. And it's killing me, 'cause there's never a right time, right time to say goodbye."
5. "Dear John" (Taylor Swift)
Perhaps Taylor's best song to-date, "Dear John" is about a guy (presumably John Mayer, but that's besides the point) who strung her along for far too long. She was in love and he was too, but only when it was convenient for him. He took advantage and basically, this is her eff-you letter.
"You are an expert at sorry and keeping the lines blurry. Never impressed by me acing your tests. All the girls that you run dry have tired lifeless eyes, 'cause you burned them out. Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone. Don't you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress cried the whole way home. I should have known."
