It's hard to believe a woman as wise and giving as Jennifer Lawrence is only 21! She caught our eye as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, and isn't going anywhere anytime soon. She's convinced us she was a super attractive warrior and ahead of the 'hunger' but she didn't convince some critics in Hollywood.
Manohla Dargis of The New York Times said that Lawrence would have "looked hungry enough" a few years ago for the role, but it was hard to believe her as a person "starved into submission." We understand her concern regarding the art of the role but Lawrence didn't want to be another starved moniker for young girls everywhere. "In Hollywood, I'm obese," the actress told Elle magazine in its December issue. "I'm considered a fat actress. I’m Val Kilmer in that one picture on the beach."
We must be looking at someone else because Lawrence doesn't seem a bit "obese" to us, but she does seem like a stand-up role model for women. "I'm never going to starve myself for a part," she said. "I don’t want little girls to be like, 'Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner.' I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong — not thin and underfed."
You tell them, girl! Lawrence is a role model for this very reason. She understands her fame is in full view of a lot of young women and she wants, it seems, to do right by those women. One thing Hollywood's new role model doesn't have to worry about is being the new face of anorexia rumors because she's strong and fit—something all of us would like to accomplish!
You can catch the gorgeous actress in her new film Silver Linings Playbook alongside Bradley Cooper, out November 16.
