Nikki Reed thinks that putting a bun in the oven just after you've said "I do" is a terrible idea.
Reed and her husband, American Idol alum Paul McDonald, got hitched last year. Although they want to take things slow when it comes to child-bearing, the couple certainly took the fast track to marriage. The two met on the red carpet in March 2011, and Reed was seen wearing an engagement ring that June (only 3 months later!). Then, they wed in October! Quicky Marriage! Nikki Reed & Paul McDonald's "Magical" Wedding
In any case, Reed feels very strongly about her whole "waiting to have kids" stance. She said: "We want to travel and be able to fly on an airplane without a baby and just have freedom."
We think it's sweet that she wants some one-on-one time with her husband before the kids come along. But, when you've only known your husband for a year, of course you want quality time with just him! Newlyweds who have previously dated for years may be ready to have kids right after the honeymoon – not everyone jumps into matrimony as quickly as these two did. Nikki Reed's Quick Engagement: What Gives?
Despite having no children, it seems Reed and McDonald still don't spend much quality time together. "It's been a little stressful (lately) because it's been so busy," Reed says. "Paul's been recording his album full time, and I've been shooting, so we're both very busy right now."
So, how do they keep the romance alive?
"You just have to make the other person a priority over your work, which is a very controversial statement, I guess," Reed adds. "People, especially in this business, don't think that's a good idea, but that's what you have to do."
Although the couple certainly can't entertain the idea of kids anytime soon, Reed has said that it's something she'll definitely want "one day."
