No one likes going to the doctor, even if it's just for a check-up. There's always the tiny fear that they'll find something wrong with you or tell you something you don't want to hear. But the one thing you can count on when you're a patient is that doctors are trustworthy and have your best interests in mind. Or do they?
After Maria Menonous was sexually abused not once, but twice by two different doctors, she realized maybe she shouldn't trust everyone, not even a professional in a white lab coat. Maria Menounos: A Perfect Score On & Off The Dance Floor
According to Us Weekly, Maria opened up to Howard Stern via the New York Daily News about her scary incidents with her doctors, which started at a young age. The star made an appointment to have her sore throat checked, but when she entered the room, they had her dress in a hospital gown. After that, the doctor began to grope her genitals.
"'I was really young, so I was uncomfortable," the 34-year-old Extra correspondent revealed. "(My boyfriend) Kevin was in the waiting room and I literally started screaming ... I was just so uncomfortable I didn't know what to do.'"
Unfortunately, Maria's horrifying experience with sexual abuse didn't end there. She also opened up about being touched inappropriately during a gynecological exam where the physician told her he liked her belly button ring and began touching it.
Understandably, Ms. Menonous now takes extra precautions when going to the doc and says she has a serious phobia because of her experiences, which she decided not to act legally on. No matter what reason Maria has for seeking medical attention, she makes sure to bring her boyfriend with her into the exam room.
They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but a little muscle doesn't hurt either.
