Was It Necessary For Lori 'Lolo' Jones To Admit She's A Virgin?

Lori Lolo Jones
The Track & Field Olympic athlete shared with the world that she's a virgin. Was it a good move?

Lori 'Lolo' Jones is a gorgeous and talented 29-year-old who's about to go to London to run in the Olympics! But, the one thing this track and field star isn't starring in is a relationship ... or a bedroom romp, for that matter.

According to People, the Olympian recently tweeted that she is a virgin.

During a recent appearance on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, Jones said she believes that her virginity is "a gift I want to give my husband," but that remaining one while many young people are not has been difficult. Hence, why she thinks she's single.

She revealed: "This journey has been hard. It's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Harder than training for the Olympics. Harder than studying for college has been staying a virgin before marriage." (Wow! For some reason, we think running track and field in the Olympics is pretty darn difficult!) Hope Solo: Confident & Ready For The London Olympics

Jones isn't as super-human as she appears – and she does get tempted much like other people. "I've been tempted," she said. "I've had guys tell me … 'Hey, you know, if you have sex, it'll help you run faster.'"

Well, hopefully she's not dumb enough to fall for a line like that. Jones is a beautiful and tough woman for sure, and it's certainly rare to find someone in the public eye who will admit to being a virgin. But, why did she feel the need to come forward with this information?

We polled some of our co-workers at the YourTango offices to get their opinion. Here's what they had to say:

"I think it's pretty cool that's she's a virgin and that it shows that even celebs who are beautiful and famous save themselves for marriage." - Anna

"Keep it to yourself. When you advertise it, everyone just thinks you're lying (like Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, the Jonas Brothers)." - Rachel

"I don't see why a woman's sexuality should be anybody's business at all, or why she feels the need to talk about it publicly. Whatever you do or don't do with your nether regions is NOT for anyone to discuss or judge." - Natalie

"it sounds a little like a fame ploy. But if it's true, more power to her." - Christina
