Cruise channels his 'Rock of Ages' character Stacee Jaxx in a shocking, bad boy photo.
Tom Cruise is back, and it seems, ready to rock with a scandalous new shirtless cover for the June 2012 issue of W Magazine that features the veteran actor looking buff and tattooed, and rocking a whole lot of guyliner. Looking every bit the bad-boy hard-rocker Stacee Jaxx—his character in the upcoming film adaptation of the musical Rock of Ages—Tom's new cover has given rise to mixed reactions.
It's certainly a striking, if not downright bizarre image, showing the 49-year-old Rock of Ages actor with two groupies hanging off his chest and, yes, a large tattoo of a gun pointing down at his crotch. The women in the photograph, models Edita Vilkeviciute and Abbey Lee Kershaw, are all over Cruise, with one even sticking a hand into his pants. Katie Holmes Calls Hubby Tom Cruise A 'Manly Romantic'
And that flawless six pack? Some critics have pointed out the image's seemingly heavy editing. Styleite calls the photo "awkward," and adds, "What's really bothering us is the lack of lines on the 49-year-old actor's face and his weirdly perfect bod." HollywoodLife, however, thinks Tom is "smoldering," and notes that the actor has "certainly nailed the rocker vibe."
Tom isn't the first star to raise eyebrows on the cover of W. In March, Kate Moss incited the outrage of Christian groups when she appeared on a religion-themed cover looking like the Virgin Mary for the magazine's "Spring Fashion Bible" issue. And in 2009, a photographer bet $5,000 that a controversially thin image of Demi Moore was heavily edited, with a chunk of her hip missing from the photo. Tom is just the latest in a line of stars to shake things up on the risk-taking publication's cover.
