The lyrics on MDNA were clearly written by an angry ex-wife!
Madonna has had quite a year so far – the 53-year-old kicked butt singing at the Super Bowl in February, and now she's kicking her ex-husband, Guy Ritchie, where it hurts on her latest album, MDNA.
Madonna's eight-year marriage to the 43-year-old Sherlock Holmes director ended in 2008 on a very bitter note. She admitted to Rolling Stone in 2009 (via Us Weekly) that the relationship was "challenging," and that, had it not ended, she would have "thrown herself off a building." (The exes now share custody of sons Rocco, 11, and David Banda, 6.) Drawing Sides In the Madonna Divorce
So, of course the scorned musician wrote a whole album dedicated to the pain of that divorce!
According to Rolling Stone's review of MDNA, the icon's music "has always been about liberation from oppression, but for the first time the oppression is internal: loss and sadness."
One of the songs on her 12th album "I Don't Give A" croons out: "I tried to be your wife/Diminished myself, I swallowed my light." Guy Ritchie Opens Up About His "Soap Opera" Marriage With Madonna
Despite the dark tone of her lyrics, making this album seems to have been a cathartic experience for Madge since she's now happily dating dancer Brahim Zaibat, 24. (Did Jennifer Lopez take a page out of Madonna's book?)
We're glad to see Madonna back on top of her feelings!
