Jennifer Westfeldt On Being Childless With "Dream" Beau, Jon Hamm

For her directorial debut, Friends With Kids, actress Jennifer Westfeldt used her own experiences as a childless friend of married couples with kids to write the script. She also used her own boyfriend, hunky Jon Hamm, to bring star power and humor to the comedy. Turns out, the combination worked incredibly well.

New York Magazine recently caught up with the 41-year-old actress to talk about her film (which was a huge success at the Toronto International Film Festival), as well as her juicy, long-term relationship with Mr. Don Draper himself. When asked what it was like to work with him, Westfeldt admits, "Jon? He's a dream to work with, he's a dream to be with. That's not challenging." Jon Hamm & Jennifer Westfeldt Are Not Engaged

What is challenging—and what served as inspiration for her movie—is the couple's childless status among a sea of friends in New York with dozens of little toddlers. "You notice your friends disappear for a while and you never see them and you can never have one-on-one time with them and when you do, it’s usually involving kids," she says. "Jon and I have gone through that with a lot of people... It's interesting to see how the friendship dynamic changes, and how the romantic relationship changes, at least for a time."

So the easiest solution to that problem would just be to bunker down and have some babies already, right? Well, according to Jennifer, the timing just isn't right. Jon Hamm Likes The Unmarried Life

"It's funny — we're certainly not opposed. I guess, it's definitely … Our lives have been so crazy the past few years. We've been working on separate coasts a lot. I was doing a play; Jon was doing Mad Men. I think you have to be ready to be in one place if you're going to embark on that. We'll see what the future brings."

Until their careers settle down, it seems that the famous couple will continue to watch their friends pack up and move to Brooklyn, and will attend the dozens of birthday parties and baby showers as "the childless people standing there with the balloon."

But, there are worse things in the world, right?
