Katie Holmes Didn't Understand Sacrifice "Until I Became A Mom"

Katie Holmes borrowed inspiration from her real-life role to get into character for her new film.

It seems Katie Holmes' new horror movie, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, features a little bit of art imitating life. Holmes plays Kim, a woman who marries a man with a young daughter, which sounds familiar to the actress's marriage to Tom Cruise (he had two adopted kids from his previous marriage with Nicole Kidman). Not only that, but Kim and the daughter, played by young actress Bailee Madison, form a close bond over some horrifyingly scary action — something the real-life mom can definitely relate to.

The 32-year-old beauty recently told Reuters (via Huffington Post) that it wasn't hard at all for her to get into character. In fact, while filming, she loved Madison like her own daughter (and mini-fashion icon), Suri.

"I think being a mom myself, when I read my character and I saw the journey she takes and how we see her make sacrifices for her child — I think I didn't understand that until I became a mom," she says. "You will do anything for that person, and you have strength you didn't know that you had, which is what I like about my character. So I think that being a mom definitely gave me much more insight." 5 Tips For Moms & Dads On Bonding With Their Kids

We think it's safe to say Holmes will be spending even more time with Suri after appreciating that connection with Madison. Perhaps it will even inspire her to bring another little Cruise into the world! After all, there's nothing more precious in life than the love between a mom and her children, right? Another Baby For Katie Holmes?
