Introducing YourTango Experts Spotlight: Body Image And Love 2011

By . Posted on .

Woman looking in the mirror
The YourTango Experts spend a week teaching us how body image affects our love lives.

Our relationships with our bodies is one of the most sensitive and critical relationships of our lives. The messages of abuse, tenderness, love, hate and everything in between that we send our bodies have a major impact on both body image and functionality. A study published on Glamour.com found that the average woman has 13 negative thoughts about her body each day with several women reporting 35, 50 and even 100 negative thoughts a day.

These results got us thinking about how negative thoughts affect the average woman. Do they stop her from trying on new clothes or showing off parts of her body? Do they prevent her from being intimate or worse, hurt her chances at finding love? Unfortunately, for some women, the answer is that a negative body image does all of this and more.
