Going On Vacation

Just as in a long-distance relationship, traveling many miles for vacation isn't environmentally-friendly. In addition to the carbon emissions from fuel used in transport, there's also the pollution associated with lodging and buying souvenirs.
One way to make your vacations greener is to stay closer to home. If you have to roam farther, travel as fuel-efficiently as possible. It may not be as a fast as a plane, but there's something to be said for the scenic route (by train, not Hummer). Explore Earth-friendly hotels and motels, and if you have to buy souvenirs, commit to making sure they're local.
This sounds obvious, but make sure things back home are green while you're away. Turn off your thermostat, and don't leave lights on or appliances plugged in. If you have pets, it's probably greener to board them than to have someone petsit in your home.
