Long-Distance Relationships

It's true: long-distance relationships aren't sustainable. And I'm not just talking about the lonely nights, temptation and scheduling conflicts. Living far away from your sweetheart means greater energy consumption (and yes, higher energy bills) and fuel emissions when you visit. For example, a one-way flight from NYC to San Francisco emits about 2,500 lbs of carbon dioxide.
The obvious solution is to fall in love with someone local. If you play your cards right, you might even be able to bike or walk to each other's places.
Too easy? Well, if you have to fall for someone miles away, travel the greenest way you can. Opt for public transportation when you can, but know that sometimes a hybrid car-pool is more eco-friendly than a smoke-belching bus. And flights are fastest, but they have the greatest environmental impact. Maybe it's time to save the Earth and move to the same city?
