Did Douglas Drama Send Catherine Zeta-Jones To The Mental Ward?

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones
After a hectic year of cancer, lawsuits, and drug addiction, sources say the actress has had enough.

Michael Douglas may be celebrating a clean bill of health after successfully conquering throat cancer, but his seemingly stable wife Catherine Zeta-Jones is having some serious health issues of her own. Just yesterday her rep confirmed that the stunningly beautiful Oscar winner had checked in to the Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut to treat her bipolar II disorder, but the National Inquirer is saying that she's really there for some substance detox. It's certainly a surprising move for the publicly classy actress, but after the hellish year she's had, who can blame her?

Dealing with cancer while raising two children would be enough to send most people to the loony bin, but Catherine has had an additional heaping portion of Douglas family drama to add to her plate.

Just last April, Catherine's troubled step-son Cameron Douglas was sentenced to five years in prison for drug dealing after he was caught selling crystal meth and posessing heroin at NYC's super-swanky Hotel Gansevoort. Catherine handled the sticky situation with grace, but her troubles with the Douglas fam were far from over.

Two months later, Michael's ex-wife Diandra proved that greed isn't always good when she sued the aging actor for half the money and royalties from his film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Dealing with the ex is never fun, but dealing with a grieving and greedy ex whose son was recently put in jail must be an absolute nightmare. Add Michael's August cancer announcement to the mix, and it's impossible not to feel for the ailing Catherine, all jealousies aside.

A source close to Catherine says she's been turning to chain-smoking and alcohol to cope with her marital woes, so some rest and relaxation in picturesque Connecticut may be just what the doctor ordered to get this talented beauty back on track.

It's a good thing Catherine says she's never getting divorced, because a year with the wacky Douglas clan would be a great impetus to re-examine that prenup.
