There's a new application in town called Breakup Notifier that allows singles to track their Facebook friends' relationship changes. 3 Apps That Let You Online Date Through Facebook And Twitter
Created by Dan Loewenherz (apparently in a matter of hours), Breakup Notifier does exactly what its name suggests. Users will have the chance to compile lists of their "taken friends" so that they can receive an e-mail when these friends change their status from "In a Relationship" to "Single." Facebook Adds Relationship Status Aimed At Same-Sex Couples
"A few days ago, my fiance and her mom were talking about setting up a nice guy with my fiance's sister. Unfortunately, said guy is in a relationship. My mother-in-law to be suggested it would be nice to know when the relationship was over (jokingly)," said Loewenherz in a post to Hacker News. "I blurted out that I could make something that could do that in a couple of hours. By then, I knew I had to do it."
Though Breakup Notifier is set to scan Facebook every 24 hours for relationship changes, Loewenherz admits this application was mostly created as a joke. Unfortunately, joke or not, we predict this app to perpetuate Facebook stalking to a whole new and maybe unneccesary level.
While this application may keep you (creepily) in the loop, it's nothing but a dating distraction. How can you find and maintain healthy relationships if you're too busy worrying about someone else's? You can't. Even if someone you were interested suddenly became available, a status switch doesn't mean that person is ready to start anew. Breakups, no matter the circumstance, take time to get over. Now You Can Facebook Stalk Your Date While Driving!
And honestly, why would you want to spend your time waiting for someone else's boyfriend to be free? You are a fabulous female perfectly capable of finding your own man. Just believe in yourself, and you might be surprised at how many dating opportunities present themselves without the help of this app.
