The actor says he won't get married again...but how does his Elisabetta Canalis feel about this?
Last Friday George Clooney and his father, Nick Clooney, appeared on the Piers Morgan show on CNN to discuss George's philanthropy and, inevitably, the topic of marriage was given some brief attention.
From 1989 to 1993 Clooney was married to the actress Talia Balsam. (Talia currently plays Mona Sterling on Mad Men and has been married to her costar John Slattery since 1998.) Clooney has been involved with Elisabetta Canalis, 32, since 2009. (In between his current realtionship and his first and only marriage, Clooney had a five-year on/off relationship with British model Lisa Snowdon and briefly dated Sarah Larson.)
A friend of Elisabetta's told Popeater that "[she] had no idea he was going to say that. She thought she was going to be the girl who would finally get George to settle down and put a ring on it. She was totally surprised." Mr. Canalis Has A Talk With George Clooney
Last year Elisabetta opened up about her relationship to Italian Vanity Fair: "There are some people who just don't want to see me happy. [George] reassures me all the time. He is very close. I feel more embraced than ever before. The idea of being so loved is overwhelming...George has given color back to my life."
George's father, Nick, even seemed a bit taken aback by his son's response, stating, "I want you to think about that. I want you to think about ... we've been married ... Nina [George's mom] and I've been married 51 years." He called their union "one of the great marriages." Nina and Nick renewed their vows in 2007.
It's sweet her boyfriend's father seems to be on her side, but we hear Elisabetta already refuses to take no for an answer: "If he doesn't ask her to marry him soon she will ask him," an insider told Popeater. "And if he says no, well there are plenty more fish in the ocean." 5 Signs That George Clooney May Actually Commit
It's reassuring that Elisabetta seems to be keeping a positive attitude about her less-than-ideal situation, but after dating a passionately involved human rights and peace activist, not to mention an incredibly handsome man, for over a year, is it really as simple as finding another fish in the sea?
