What gift will Elton John and partner David Furnish remember most from Christmas 2010? Their 7-pound, 15-ounce bundle of joy named Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John.
The healthy baby boy was born in California via a surrogate. He is the first child of John, 63, and Furnish, 48. The couple have been together for 17 years and entered a civil partnership in 2005.
"I've never felt anything like it in my life," John said of holding Zachary for the first time, in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly. "You're so awestruck. What can you say? You take it in. The feeling, the joy, the warmth of his body, his breathing... I will never forget that experience ever."
According to OK! Magazine, John and Furnish both donated sperm to conceive their son, but neither knows -- or cares -- whose was used. The couple will keep mum on the identity of their son's surrogate mother, but say that she will have an active role in little Zachary's life.
John and Furnish are thrilled to be parents. The couple previously tried to adopt an HIV-positive Ukrainian orphan named Lev, but were denied for not meeting the age and marriage requirements of Ukrainian adoption law. The news was devastating, but John has stated that he and Furnish remain committed to financially providing for Lev and his older brother Artyom and will campaign for change in Ukrainian adoption policy.
Any child would be lucky to have such loving and devoted parents. Congrats to the couple!
