'L Word' Star Kicked Off An Airplane For Kissing Her Girlfriend?!
By Laura Palmer. Posted on .
It's a sad, sad world we live in when an adult can't kiss another consenting adult in public. Unfortunately, we're still forced to live in such a world because there are still hateful repercussions from those who choose to close their minds to love.
Case in point: yesterday, The L Word actress Leisha Hailey was kicked off a Southwest Airline flight for kissing her girlfriend, Camila Grey, an L.A.-based musician. According to Perez Hilton, the two boarded the plane and were already in their seats when they decided to have a pre-departure kiss. The Southwest flight crew noticed and told them that kissing each other wasn't allowed on their airlines because they're a "family" company. Family, as you may know, is often a word used to ostracize anyone who isn't heterosexual. The Real L Word: Lesbian Voyeurism Or Good TV?
The couple was understandably very upset at this. When they defended themsevles, they were told to leave the plane.
The 40-year-old Leisha took to Twitter to further explain her story:
"I have been discriminated against by @SouthwestAir. Flt. attendant said that it was a 'family' airline and kissing was not ok. This is an outrage. I demand a public apology by @SouthwestAir and a refund. Hate is not a family value. I will never fly this airline.
We were escorted off the plane for getting upset about the issue. @SouthwestAir endorses homophobic employees. No one made her accountable."
Grey also tweeted about the incident:
"So we've joined the ranks alongside @BJAofficial and @ThatKevinSmith for being kicked off an @SouthwestAir flight, this time for being gay. @SouthwestAir We didn't know intolerance and discrimination for slouchy pants, being overweight or being gay was part of your family values."
Yikes. Southwest Airlines has sure been digging a deep discriminating hole for themselves in these past few years. This time they've gone too far, and hopefully people will start thinking twice before flying with them. I mean, what's next? Say there's an emergency on the runway and people need to evacuate the plane. Who will they let off first? White people? Straight people? Skinny people? Leisha is now using Twitter to urger her followers to boycott the airline. She's also claiming she has video footage of the discriminatory act. "Did I mention to @SouthwestAir that I have a lot of their actions recorded on audio and video? RT #boycottSouthwest #discrimination," she tweeted.
Southwest Airlines has issued a statement claiming that their flight crew approached the actress and her girlfriend because of their "behavior ... not gender."
Man, we would really love to see that footage, Leisha, to see how it really went down.
