Former 98 degrees boy-bander Nick Lachey might not have much of a career these days, but he and longtime girlfriend MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo, who have been dating since 2006, are still going strong. However, while the couple was a paparazzi magnet when they first got together, interest in their relationship has waned over the years, and we can’t even remember the last time any tabloids even wrote about them. (Clearly, happy couples don’t sell magazines quite the same way as heart-break and cheating scandals do.)
OK Magazine is reporting, however, that Nick and Vanessa want to reignite their careers by getting married and landing a reality show about their relationship, a Newlyweds 2.0. The couple has even been spotted talking with TV executives about the idea. Nick and Vanessa: 10 Carat Engagement Ring?
"They are exploring an idea to get married and do a show about newlyweds. It would help Nick relaunch his career and Vanessa take her career to the next level," said a source to the magazine, reports Celebitchy.com.
We find it really interesting that Nick would want to do this, given the fact that he pretty much blamed doing the original Newlyweds for breaking-up his marriage to Jessica Simpson. Although the MTV show, which aired from 2003-2005, made him and Jessica A-list stars overnight, he told Rolling Stone that it negatively impacted their relationship. Nick Lachey On Jessica Simpson, Love
"Jessica and I began playing these parts even when we were by ourselves," he said at the time. "It became a really blurred line. There was a question about what truly was our reality."
In what seems like another desperate idea, the National Enquirer reported back in June that Vanessa was also trying to get pregnant so that she and Nick could use that as a "hook" to land a reality show as well. (!!)
Meanwhile, Vanessa might not be the only one with a possible baby on the way. Jessica Simpson has been looking pregnant lately, and while it could just be a weight fluctuation, she recently Tweeted how lucky she was to have a "wonderful man," meaning her new and supposedly unemployed boyfriend Eric Johnson.
Perhaps if Jessica and Eric are planning on getting married too, Nick and Vanessa could recruit them to be a part of their new reality series? They could call it Newlyweds: Re-Married and feature awkward run-ins between the two couples. (Think about it...It’s not like Nick and Jessica have music careers anymore. They probably both could use the money, right?)
