Give Me the Single Life

Give Me the Single Life

There are many stages to letting go. Hesitation. Denial. Anger. It's exhausting. At some point you just get tired of it. Or at least I have. But completely letting go is never easy. Because for some reason being single is oh so bad. Like a scarlet "S." Why? Sure, relationships, when they are good, can be fantastic. But what about the relationship with yourself? Shouldn't that make you just as happy?

I was thinking of that song "Give Me the Simple Life." And being single is simple. I never truly embraced the freedom in it. I can come and go as I please. Sole control of the remote. The thrill of getting dolled up to hit the town with the girls... and the fun of carefree flirting.

All this is appealing, but that's not why I am enjoying being single right now. What I am enjoying most is not putting another person's needs before my own just to keep them happy... because keeping them happy means I will be happy, right? That's the problem right there. Catering to another person's ego to keep the peace does not guarantee happiness. A man should add a rainbow to your already sunny day. Cheesy I know, but the point is, maybe we would stop fearing rejection and being alone if when we are alone we learn to enjoy our time on the bench.

I've come to discover I really want to learn to cook like a chef. Or at least as well as they do on the Food Network. Either way, my "me" time will be well spent. Just think about it. The more comfortable you are with just you, the less anxious you will become, which means you'll be less likely to settle and let someone bring you down.

Maybe I am an optimist, but I truly believe we all will find love at some point. Why not wait for one that's worth getting all worked up over in a good way. I think it's all about giving what you get. If a man is bringing joy into your life, then you cater to his happiness. Why put all that energy into someone who could care less and may even take advantage of your kindness. I'd rather be making Baja Fish Tacos. Yummm!
