Sadie Frost Dishes On Jude Law & Depression

Well, it looks like Jude Law had good reason to be worried ex-wife Sadie Frost's tell-all book. When the unoriginally-titled memoir Crazy Days hits bookshelves next month, readers can expect to find lots of gory details on Sadie and Jude's troubled marriage. As a preview of what to expect from Sadie's poison pen, the UK's Daily Mail recently revealed one juicy tidbit that does nothing to repair Jude's reputation as something of a charming cad. In 2006, not long after divorcing her first husband to indulge in her "out of control" love for Jude, seven years her junior, Sadie became pregnant with the couple's first child. Sadie claims that Jude put his career ahead of his family, explaining that "Jude was away a lot, while I was sitting on the sofa, getting fatter and gripped by a nagging sense that I was jeopardizing my love." Jude allegedly continued to shirk his daddy duties after son Rafferty was born that October, leaving Sadie alone and confused—and a danger to herself.

Eventually I wanted to press the self-destruct button. One night I arranged a babysitter and went out. I partied all night and got home the next day racked with guilt. I was sitting at my dressing table, not feeling anything—just numb. I watched my hand slowly pick up a pair of scissors. Sadie was successfully treated for her crippling depression and she and Jude married in 1997. Things seemed to be going well until her illness reared its ugly head in 2000 after the birth of daughter Iris. As Jude's star rose, Sadie's self-esteem plummeted. She began to obsess over her condition, leaving less time to devote to working on her crumbling marriage. After son Rudy was born in 2002, Sadie sought professional help several times, citing Jude's uncaring attitude toward her as the reason. Sadie's third bout of postpartum depression turned out to be the final nail in the couple's coffin, as she realized during a trip to Thailand that Jude's love for her was dead.

The Daily Mail piece is quite lengthy and, while it appears that Sadie blames Jude for contributing to her depression, she doesn't seem to be painting herself as a victim. She admits that she made some poor choices, including diving into an affair while she was a married mother of one with a then-19-year-old Jude.
