Weren’t invited to Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky’s wedding in Rhinebeck this past weekend? Us neither. However, thanks to photos the Clinton family released and some ace reporting by the Washington Post, we have the scoop on the former First Daughter’s wedding, from her dress to Bill Clinton’s toast!
Despite the intense media scrutiny, Chelsea’s wedding was overall pretty low-key. Although she did have 400+ guests, only a few were household names. (Madeleine Albright and Mary Steenburgen were there, but sadly Al Gore, Steven Spielberg, and Oprah were not.) More Details About Chelsea Clinton’s Wedding
The bride chose a strapless, white silk organaza Vera Wang with a veil and bucked the current trend of wearing your hair down. Instead, she wore hers up in a chic chignon. Secretary of State/Mother of the Bride Hillary Clinton represented Oscar de la Renta in a plum-colored gown, and, although we’re not sure which designer Bill Clinton wore, he looked pretty dashing (and fit!) as he walked Chelsea down the aisle.
Chelsea and Marc decided to bridge their religious differences and have both a rabbi and a Methodist minister officiate the wedding. Never one to stay silent for too long, Bill still got an opportunity to speak and gave a toast at the reception, noting that having 2 women in the house had always made him feel outnumbered, but now that he had a son-in-law, "the playing field is even. I have someone else on my side." (Do you hear that Marc? You will now always need to take Bill’s side in family disputes. It’s a presidential order!) Chelsea Clinton Tells Bill To Back Off
As for food, Chelsea did in fact choose a gluten-free cake from La Tulipe, although she didn’t subject her guests to a totally vegan menu. Dinner options included shortribs and Atlantic char, as well as a vegetarian option.
Although Chelsea Clinton and her new husband Marc Mezvinsky are most likely somewhere on their honeymoon, we’d like to wish them a belated congrats! Now that they are married, let the Chelsea Clinton baby bump watch begin!
