Fran Drescher's ex may be gay, but their relationship has never been better.
Finding out that your ex-husband, who you were married to for over 20 years, is, gay would be probably be a upsetting, maddening experience for most women, but not Fran Drescher.
In a candid interview with Intouch Magazine, the actress revealed that her ex-husband, TV writer and producer Peter Marc Jacobson, is homosexual, but, in spite of his confession, the two remain extremely close.
"Peter and I feel so blessed to have met each other and to still have a caring, loving relationship," said Fran. "Love is what we're all about."
Fran and Peter met while attending high school together in Queens, New York, and married shortly after Fran's 21st birthday. Peter was the co-creator for Fran's break-out TV show, The Nanny; however, things in their lives weren't always so cheery. Celebrities On 2010's Gaydar
In 1985, the couple experience a traumatic burglary of their Los Angeles home. One of the robbers ransacked their apartment while the other tied up Peter and sexually assaulted Fran at gunpoint.
According to PopEater, the burglars were eventually convicted for the crime, but the experience haunted Fran and Peter for years to come.
"At the time, it didn't seem to hurt the marriage," said Fran to Larry King in 2002, but added, "Nothing was ever really the same again."
The couple divorced in 1999, and that's when Peter decided to tell Fran the truth about his sexuality. Despite their split, Fran and Peter are still good friends and even co-hosted gay rights events together.
"I'm a gay icon," she explained. "But even if I weren't, I'm a political activist who believes in preserving the American dream, which is tolerance of diversity and the separation of church and state."
