Poll: Is Pole Dancing Sporty Or Smutty?

Miss USA Rima Fakih won a pole dancing contest. Is pole dancing smutty or sporty?

Another Miss USA pageant, another scandalous revelation. Following on the sequined hem of 2009 de-crowned Miss America Carrie Prejean, it turns out the newly crowned Miss USA Rima Fakih from Michigan was also the 2007 winner of a Detroit radio station's "Stripper 101" contest.

Despite the name, no clothes were shed and only women were in attendance. Photographs of Fakih show her in short shorts performing on the stripper pole and later, as the victor, with money tucked into her tank top. Miss USA Caught In A Pole-Dancing Scandal

Compared to the scandals surrounding pageant winners past (Prejean's nude pictures and alleged sex tape, for example), knocking out some pole dancing moves while remaining fully clothed seems like tween play, if not outright child's play, doesn't it? Heck, suburban mothers have taken to aerobic pole dancing classes like they're Jazzercise. On the flip side, winning a pole dancing competition is certainly more suggestive than, say, taking home top honors at trivia night.

What do you think: Is pole dancing mainstream enough to be considered fun and sporty? Or does it still fall on the "smutty" stripper side of the tracks?

Have you ever pole danced? Would you try it? Tell us about it in the comments below.
