Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon loves her lesbian fiancée Christine Marinoni for a variety of reasons, and openly counts the ways in the June issue of the Advocate. Which Sex and the City Gal Are You?
For thy butchness, for thy short-man-with-boobs good looks, and for thy undeniable sexuality, she says while adding that her homosexual romance "wasn't something in me that was waiting to come out. It was like, this person is undeniable. How can I let this person walk by?" Curious About Girl On Girl? Bisexual Gives Advice.
"If anybody, prior to my meeting and falling in love with Christine, had asked me about what I think about sexuality, I would have said I think we're all bisexual," says the SATC II star. "But I had that point of view without ever having felt attracted to a woman. I had never met a woman I was attracted to [before Christine]. Who does know? What's interesting about Cynthia Nixon's attraction to Christine is that it is still wrapped up in traditional gender dynamics. She loves her, but "a lot of what I love about her is her butchness," she says, describing her partner as basically "a short man with boobs."
So what does that make Cynthia (who, by the way, only began dating women, of which Marinono was the first, in 2004, one year after splitting with the all-male Danny Mozes, father of her two children and long-time partner of 15 years)?
Is she bisexual? Homosexual? Polyamorous? What? What is she?
Or maybe her relationship just doesn't fit in a box. Maybe she just loves Christine for Christine, lesbian butch or not. And maybe that's the point.
"Maybe I'm just lucky, but I feel like Christine is so amazing with our kids – because they're our kids," she says. "I feel like falling in love with her is part of being amazed at how she makes our family so much better."
