The Search for Mr. Fabulous: Plentyoffish.com

Plentyoffish.com or Pof.com is a free online dating site. I was on it for about two and a half weeks. Anytime, I signed onto it, I was just inundated with emails from members that were quite eager to meet someone...anyone.

That's the feeling I got from anyone on there that I emailed for awhile. Desperation. Clear and distinct, desperation. I am not saying everyone on there is, I mean, I was on there and I am anything but. However, the men I did get contacted by were desperate and it really began to border on creepy before I finally deleted my account entirely.

I had been contacted by a WIDE variety of men, anything from juiceheads, to new immigrants (English skills were horrible) to men who really had no personality. I had one man that would continually email me, like random, crazy, incoherent emails that often began with, "I just want to ask you a quick question..."

Only...it never was a quick question. I deleted the account all together right before Thanksgiving. I assume that the holidays in the online dating world probably make them meccas for the lonely, the crazy and the desperate. Going with that thought, I have not signed on to the paid site since before Thanksgiving. I figure that by tomorrow it may have been long enough and I can sign on to see if anything new has popped up there, but to be real honest, I don't even care if anything new has. This experiment has been fun in that, I have really been putting myself out there, however, I know my Mr. Fabulous is not coming into my life via an online dating site.

Bottom Line: I think that a free dating site is not the answer. If you're serious about dating to find the one, then you are willing to pay for that service. I feel like charging a fee for site usage weeds out a lot of people.
