Finally! After two kids, an engagement that seemed to drag on forever and endless wedding talk (and wedding planning, Joel Madden and Nicole Richie finally got married. It was getting to the point where these two either needed to do a huge blowout wedding or quietly elope, because the build-up had gone on for what seemed like years. But leave it to the fashionista and her music legend papa to go the blowout route. Not that we would expect anything less from the Richies, but this was a star-studded bash that included Kim Kardashian and Samantha Ronson. While we're still waiting for all the details, here's the 4-1-1 on what went down on the much-anticipated Richie-Madden nuptials.
The ceremony took place at Lionel Riche's home (or should we say, estate?) in Beverly Hills, and although the boho-meets-rocker pair kept it relatively small with just 150 guests (sorry, but in Hollywood, that's small!), this wasn't your ordinary celebrity wedding. (You think Lionel's little Princess was about to settle for ordinary after waiting this long?) Although the couple tried to downplay the whole affair, claiming they already felt "married," the reception was what dream weddings are made of.
"[The wedding is] less about Joel and Nicole getting married and more about having a party," a friend of the couple told Us. "The spirit is that it’s a celebration and it’s very low-key."
Um, low-key? Does this sound "low-key" to you? According to UsMagazine.com, no detail was ignored for the winter wonderland themed fete. Apparently, even though Nicole resides in LA, she's obsessed with winter (Winter Kate happens to be her daughter's middle name and the name of her clothing line.) The couple's 2-year-old daughter Harlow was the flower girl, but it doesn't look like their son Sparrow was old enough to participate in the ceremony, although, personally, we think he would have made an adorable ring bearer.
But here's where Richie really took it to the next level: The soiree included a real, live elephant, although we're not sure how that had to do with the winter theme or what the elephants role in the whole shebang even was. Perhaps that's how Nicole made here grand entrance (well, at least until she slid off and let her dad walk her the rest of the way)? As for the wedding dress, as you can imagine, Nicole had her pick of the best bridal designers and spent a good deal of time selecting the perfect one. And apparently, up until the big day, the fashion designer was still debating between a Marchesa gown and vintage Chanel number.
"A lot of thought went into her dress—it was a priority for her," a source told Us.
