5 Tips to Breakthrough Heartbreak
By BreakUPClub. Posted on .
A breakup can take such a toll on your heart that it seems impossible to get out of bed, let alone out of your own way so that you can move on. But the only way to begin to take the pain away and move forward is to kickstart your heart. We have tried and tested countless techniques to uncover which ones will turn your breakup into a breakthrough. Here are five to get you started!
Tip #1 - Get Crafty
Tap into your inner artist by diving into a crafty activity. Creating something from scratch allows you to take your attention off your heartache and put it on the fun task at hand. Paint a picture of your favorite travel destination, make a collage based on future wants, tackle that dessert recipe you’ve been dying to eat. Put your creativity to the test and watch your spirit awaken!
Tip #2 - Pay It Forward
When going through a breakup and wallowing in your singleness, it can be hard to get out of your own way. Why not do good for someone/something less fortunate than yourself? Not only will you feel you’ve made a difference in someone else’s life, but you will see how fortunate you truly are. Think about what type of cause you’re passionate about: mentoring teens, walking shelter dogs, singing to the elderly… and go make an impact!
Tip #3 - He-tox Your Life
Cell phones, email, instant messengers, and Facebook are all lethal weapons when going through a breakUP. Disconnecting from your ex physically, mentally and yes, technologically will allow you to move on emotionally. This means a total cold-turkey HE-TOX! So take a deep breath and delete him from your phone contact list, defriend him on Facebook, and remove any screen names. When you get the urge to reach out, tap into a predefined distraction activity list (a Sudoku puzzle, reading a magazine, creating an empowerment playlist). This will help you to automatically lose the urge to reconnect.
Tip #4 - Find Your Happy Place
A change of scenery can be a really refreshing way of getting through the temporary ick of heartbreak. Find a place in your city where you feel at peace. A place where you can go to think, write, cry, read, and most importantly, heal. Whether that place is a local park, a spot on the beach, or a nook in your favorite coffee shop… get up and GO!
Tip #5 - Write It Out
When going through a breakUP, your thoughts can have a life of their own. You can over-think to the point where you feel your head is going to burst! Those thoughts need to be released and we believe the best way to do that is to write it out. List out reasons why you’re better without him, list all the things you’re grateful for, create lists that reveal what you want out of a relationship and more! Buy yourself a cute journal and carry it with you everywhere for those times when you need to put your thoughts into words.
