These public pairs said 'I do' in private.
We'd like to extend our congratulations to longtime loves Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen, who topped off their eight-year relationship with a private Paris wedding last week. According to People, Isla emailed friends the big news, saying, "It was the absolute best day of my life and in so many beautiful moments I missed you all so much. I thought of you as everything was happening, but Sacha and I wanted no fuss – just us!"
Many other celebs have felt the same way. Here now are ten other couples who snuck off for "no fuss" weddings, much to the chagrin of the paparazzi.
Sandra Bullock and Jesse James (July 2005) - Despite the current sad state of this union, it started off romantic enough: after dating for a year, Sandy and Jesse (already secretly engaged) invited about 300 guests to a California ranch for what they thought was Sandra's birthday barbecue. Instead, they got to witness the couple's surprise sunset ceremony.
Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes (May 2003) - Kate's daughter Mia (from a previous marriage) and three friends were the only guests in attendance at her and Sam's low-key Anguillan wedding. This is yet another marriage we thought would last, but apparently Sam thinks he can do better than the impossibly beautiful Kate. (Yeah, good luck with that, buddy.)
Julia Roberts and Danny Moder (July 2002) - Much like the Bullock-James wedding, all of the guests at the Roberts-Moder nuptials thought they were just attending a barbecue at Julia's New Mexico ranch. The wedding was kept a secret for the entire party, until Julia and Danny shocked everyone with a midnight ceremony.
Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney (May 2005) - What a difference four months makes: that's all Renee and Kenny needed before taking the plunge in the Caribbean, with a small, intimate wedding. And that's about all they could take of married life. That September, Renee filed for annulment, famously citing "fraud" as the mysterious reason. Kenny Chesney Uses Divorce On Album
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony (April 2004) - Less than two months after the abrupt cancellation of her wedding to Ben Affleck, J.Lo began dating old flame Marc Anthony, who was in the process of getting divorced. Less than a week after Mark's divorced was finalized, the couple invited friends to an "afternoon party" at Jen's home, which turned out to be her top secret wedding to Marc. J.Lo played coy about her marital status, waiting until February 2005 to confirm what everyone already knew.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner (June 2005) - After his high-profile romance with Jennifer Lopez, Ben kept quiet about his relationship with his new Jennifer. While she was three months pregnant with their first child, the couple secretly wed in Turks and Caicos in a ceremony officiated by Jen's TV dad, Alias's Victor Garber.
Beyonce and Jay-Z (April 2008) - Somehow, a huge pop sensation and one of rap's biggest stars have managed to keep the details of their six-year relationship pretty much under wraps. Of course, they weren't fooling anyone—we all knew they were together—but Beyonce never publicly acknowledged that she was married until six months after the big day. The notoriously tight-lipped star also thanked "her husband" Jay-Z in her Grammy acceptance speech earlier this year.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon (April 2008) - After only knowing each other for a month, Mariah and Nick surprised everyone by secretly tying the knot at Mariah's private Bahamian estate. A week later, they released exclusive wedding photos to People and haven't tried to stay out of the spotlight since.
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds (September 2008) - After ending a three-year engagement to Alanis Morissette, Ryan began a whirlwind courtship with ScarJo. It only took a year for Ryan to seal the deal with Scarlett, and they wed at a wilderness resort on Vancouver Island. Less than 40 guests attended the hush-hush wedding, and Ryan and Scarlett have worked to keep their marriage private.
Jeremy Sisto and Addie Lane (October 2009) - A few months after having their first child together, the Law & Order star and his actress/model girlfriend got hitched at City Hall in Manhattan. Only their daughter and nanny were in attendance. This wedding was so secret that THIS Sisto-lover is just now learning about it while researching this list. And she is crushed. CRUSHED!!
