How important is intellectual compatibility when the sex is great and love is there?
What began as a casual physical relationship ten months ago has turned into a committed, loving relationship of six months. My boyfriend is wonderful - gentle, caring, supportive, loves to see me happy - and the chemistry is great. My concern is that we are on two different intellectual wavelengths: I read the New York Times each day while he's on playstation; I love having long debates about politics while he doesn't know who our governor is; I have a graduate degree and he never went to college.
While I love being with him and he makes me laugh, I miss the 'deeper' conversations that I've had in other relationships. Still, I appreciate him for who he is and the love we have.
He's started to talk about things like moving in together and marriage, but I'm scared of taking the next step with someone I'm not intellectually compatible with. Can this relationship work?
