Dennis Hopper Gets Restraining Order Against Wife

We've been following the story of Dennis Hopper's terminal prostate cancer and his serious marital conflict with his wife of 14 years, Victoria. Thursday the 73-year-old actor was finally granted a restraining order from Victoria, after his doctor said the less Hopper interacts with her, the longer his life will be.

Victoria and Dennis Hopper have been going in circles over a divorce for the past year, and over the last several months, Hopper's adult daughter — and now his doctors — have been seeking ways to put distance between Dennis and the stress that Victoria and the divorce talks have been putting on him. The fights between Dennis Hopper and his wife appear to root in her claims that he smokes marijuana in front of their 6-year-old daughter, that he's threatened her, and that he's unable to make sound decisions. Their divorce papers cite "irreconcilable differences" as the reason they're seeking a split.

A judge has stepped in on the mess, determining that Dennis Hopper's health is seriously at risk with Victoria present. Hopper's lawyer has stated,

Whether motivated by malice, greed, dissolution strategy, or emotional instability, Victoria Hopper's actions subjected Dennis Hopper to emotional distress which has threatened his ability to survive."

Hopper's doctor, David Agus, also said: "It is my belief and recommendation that the less Mr Hopper has to do with his estranged wife at this time, the more likely he is to have his life extended."

Victoria has been ordered to stay a minimum of 10 feet away from Hopper.
