Will Ferrell And Wife Bid Conan Goodbye, Son Hello

Will Ferrell and his wife, Viveca, welcomed their third son on Saturday, just hours after the couple helped Conan O'Brien send off his Tonight Show with a blistering rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird." The baby, whom they named Axel, joins his older brothers, Magnus and Mattias, and is reportedly healthy. Will's spokesperson said the whole family is doing well.

Will and Viveca announced in the fall that they were expecting a third son, but it was still a surprise to teary-eyed Tonight Show viewers when Will, dressed as the late Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Ronnie Van Zant in a long blond wig and low-rider jeans, appeared as Conan's final guest Friday night. He introduced Viveca as "my lady, Dawn," and said, "and if you’re wondering, yes, she is with child."

Viveca looked enormously pregnant, very lovely, and more comfortable than we'd imagine a lady just hours away from delivering could be. We really applaud pregnant ladies who can be that at ease and awesome, when, let's face it, there's this whole other fully formed person just sitting there waiting to make an entrance. The Ferrells have always been low-key about their family, with Will drawing a pretty clear line between his private life and his performing life. He has spoken publicly about his family, but Viveca generally keeps the kids out of the Hollywood spotlight, which seems to work well for them. They just look like such a nice family, don’t they?

Given that Axel spent his last hours in utero rocking out alongside his parents, Conan, Beck, Ben Harper, and Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top, we expect him to be the musical member of the Ferrell clan. Although with a name like Axel, it would also be awesome if he grew up to be a world-class figure skater.
