Jessica Simpson and Billy Corgan Make Sweet Music

Jessica Simpson and former Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan have been spending an awful lot of time together, and the rumors have been flying that they've become romantically involved. According to them, however, the only sweet music they're making together is in the recording studio.

Simpson and Corgan began collaborating together after meeting through a mutual music producer friend. For about a month, they've been wrapped up in songwriting, and a bit of flirtation. Corgan believes, however, that relationship between the two of them would never work. A source explains, "Dating Jessica publicly can be intense. Billy maintains a quiet, private music-focused life and the taste of publicity he got while being with Jessica was an eye opener."

As for Simpson, "[She] loved spending so much time in and out of the studio with Billy," said a friend of hers. "She's in awe of his musical prowess, and it adds to her feelings for him, but they are not dating."

While we're not necessarily heartbroken over the non-existence of a Simpson/Corgan relationship, it does make us think about the musical/romantic pairings we wouldn't mind seeing. Namely:

Ben Folds and Regina Spektor. They've already collaborated on the infectious and upbeat "You Don't Know Me." Would it kill them to also become my most favorite alt-pop couple ever?
