Chelsea Clinton Got Engaged On Thanksgiving

Finally. Officially. And with confirmation, Chelsea Clinton and long-term boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky are engaged. No word if her investment banker fiancé was able to match a previous offer of 40 goats and 20 cows for the former first daughter's hand in marriage.

Rumors over the summer had suggested that plans were underway for a Martha's Vineyard wedding in August. But it wasn't until this Thanksgiving that Mezvinsky officially popped the question, says Clinton spokesman Matt McKenna to ABC News. From New York City, the pair sent an e-mail to friends the following day.

We're sorry for the mass email but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn't get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Here's the back story of their romance: The two met in Washington, D.C. as teenagers, and continued their relationship as undergraduates at Stanford University. Mezvinsky is the son of former Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, D-Iowa, and former Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinksy, D-Penn.

Interesting bits of parental notoriety dug up by the Huffington Post include the fact that "his father pleaded guilty in 2002 to swindling dozens of investors out of $10 million after getting caught up in a Nigerian scam. Interestingly, his mother lost her seat in a conservative congressional district after one term in part because she chose to vote for President Clinton's health care reform."

According to sources, expect a wedding in 2010. Anybody else looking forward to hearing Bubba's father-of-the-bride speech?
