How To Date A (Real-Life) Vampire
YourTango goes inside real-life vampire relationships.

These days, it seems, everyone wants to bed a vampire. Forget Bram Stoker's Count Dracula, a hideous foreigner intent on taking the life and the virtue of nineteenth-century English ladies. Today's vampires, like True Blood's Bill Compton and Twilight
's Edward Cullen, are portrayed as crush-worthy hunks. Their combination of unearthly beauty, perfect chivalry and dangerous nature make them irresistible to women.
Bill, Edward and co. are the stuff of fiction, but there is, in fact, a community of people who identify as vampires and existed long before the current pop culture craze. So what's it like to date a real-life vampire? To talk about that, first you have to know a little about vampires.
Understanding Vampires
Most real vampires believe they were born with a "vampiric nature," meaning they have to feed in order to maintain their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. There are two main types of vampires: sanguinarians, who feed on actual blood, and psychic vampires, who feed on energy.
Sanguinarians consume the blood of other vampires, the blood of regular people (called "mundanes" in the vampire community) and sometimes animal blood (usually cow blood). Sanguinarian vampires distinguish themselves from "blood fetishists"—those who are aroused simply by seeing, touching, and smelling blood. Vampires define their feeding as a health requirement, distinct from sexual pleasure. (On the other hand, blood fetishists occasionally make good donors!)
Psychic vampires feed on the vital energy of others, either through physical contact or by soaking it up like a sponge. Ordinary people will do, but some seek out "spiritual types," artists, or other vampires. Psychic vampires describe feeding on each other as a "cycle" that refines and purifies their personal energy. Spiritual Sex: 10 Erotic Commandments
Anshar, a 29-year-old psychic vampire from Truckee, California says, "If I don't feed I get terrible migraines, dizziness and nausea. With the migraines comes terrible photosensitivity and irritability." These symptoms completely disappear after feeding, either from a donor or his partner Shade (also a vampire). "I feel warm, content," explains Anshar, "At times I break out into laughter depending on the amount of energy I've taken."
The vampire community emphasizes ethical feeding. Sanguinarians, as well as many psychic vampires, only feed on consenting donors. In fact, the community has created a donor's bill of rights along with other ethical guidelines.
Discussion
Ok Just to let you know I do eat food. quite regularly. I actually have a fast metabolism too and am skinny but i eat alot of regular food. Just because you feed off of energy or blood dosent mean you dont need to eat. Blood and energy dosent sustain your body weight only your health, emotions, and energy... which if you think about it is all tied in together. WE do eat regular food as well as either energy or blood. I am a very healthy person and the only thing i have supposably wrong with me is ADHD. Attention defecit hyperactive disorder. you wouldnt even know I had it though. This however dosent mean all vampires are healthy or that we dont need to take precautions. Especially when feeding off blood. sanguarians must be very careful.
So i do relate . know that not every thing is what it may seem
So if you people are vampires, does that mean you dont eat regular food? So you never eat mcdonalds or breakfast cereal? (Careful with that Cows Blood, you dont want mad cow disease, do you? Unless you guys are immune to disease and the common cold as well.)
Happy Holloween!
Psychic vampires,, I know that with any vampire you get weak and can become sick if you don't feed. Also the energy you can feed from is when having sex as well, when I am not around people for a long period of time I feel tired and my health goes down. I need to get around people as soon as I feel that way. When I feed I get a feeling like as if I got buzzed of liquor. I remember one time I fed too much and I drove home and I felt like I was flying, I was giddy. I don’t even drink liquor. I used to go to the Goth club and dance all night I found when everyone was dancing I got the best results. I used to feed of my ex and he would tell me to stop he got so weak. I do like the taste of blood but I never need it. I only took blood two times from my ex. I don’t think it could fill me like energy by any means. Maybe for the Sanguinarians they don’t need as much blood to get full as I get with energy.
Now days it isn’t safe to drink blood and even taking energy from someone that is sick or has very bad energy it can effect Psychic vampires in different ways. I do massage and if I massage someone that has negative energy I can pick it up and I feel like hell after. But in any case no matter how vampires feed it has to be done with caution.
Are the migraines described in the article common among people who drink blood?
I'm still looking for more Western scientific explanations. Migraines are caused by the blood vessels in your head constricting (this affects your vision) and then expanding (this causes PAIN). So what if there's something about drinking blood that makes your blood vessels contract again? It could be a direct physical effect of the blood. Or, if someone finds the idea of drinking blood thrilling, it might make their blood vessels contract.
Does that make any sense?
I'm glad to see the truth is getting out about who we really are and what we do for a while now i have taken a step back from the vamperic community due to problems in my personal life and local community but i do keep my eyes and ears open this articles and a few others have given me hope lately as along as we can keep the roll players and there beliefs out of our community i feel that someday we will be excepted with open arms world wide

It would be great to meet a guy that is of my kind . It is so hard to meet anyone that is real..but I can tell as soon as I meet you in person. Aayone can say they are a Vampire. But meet me and we will see. I won't bite unless you wnat me to* V----V lol!
I know what is true and what isn't true. I don’t have to prove what I am to anyone. If you don't believe or do believe that is you’re provocative…I am not some young kid trying to play vampire to get attention. And I don’t roam the night and find victims to drink blood or sleep in a coffin. I am not a weekend Goth telling people I am a vampire. I don’t have to dress in black, I choose to .I am not the living dead. I am sorry that the cinema has made Vampires look like fools in many ways. What is real is real and what is fake is fake. The truth is known by only a few.

1. I dont know I think I do exist or I wouldnt be typing this...
2. You cannot become a Vampyre; We are born Vampyres.
How does one know if they are a Vampyr? I still and
will always believe that Vampyres unlike humans need
energy from other sources because there body does not
have enough for what we are. I also believe we are
spiritually different than humans and that what we are is
a spiritual condition. The simple Definition of Vampyr is
one who needs energy (Life force) because our bodies
don't have enough for our soul. We take it through the
blood (some of the life force or human energy is in the
blood) of be the taking of it directly if we are strong
enough. Most Vampyres are tired and drained when alone
but are usually hyper, often have high anxiety, and feel
high and extremely powerful when around large crowds.
We may also take it from animals and nature (as well
as music sometimes) but the best source is human since
we are also human. Most normal people can get the energy
they need from food and the sun but Vampyres often
feel hungry and thirsty all the time with out satisfaction
and they still feel tired especially when they are alone
depending on how well they know how to feed. All
Vampyres have a Vampyr soul or they are just humans
who practice Vampyrism.
There are 2 main types of Vampyres Human
Vampyres and Vampyr Spirits or gods; the Human Living
Vampyres are part human and part Vampyr there are also
the pure blood vampyres Spirits or Gods but they are not
human and don't have a human body (possession
perhaps?) Of course you won't find these Vampyres on
the internet and rarely in our realm. There are also other
types of Vampyres depending on how the choose to feed
or feed best. There are Psychic Vampyres who feed off
of the psychic energies around them (as well as life
force) and Sanguis Vampyres who feed on blood which
has plasma or energy (life force) contained with in it.
Many Vampyres are Empathetic. Empathy is the
ability to know someone else's emotions psychically,
during normal conversation and at a distance. Body
language and tone of voice are not empathy, only psychic
perceptions. Empathy is a limited type of telepathy,
which is easier for most people to learn and is the most
common of all psychic abilities. We need to continually
feed on human energy since we are Gods/Goddesses in a
weaker human form and there fore deplete our human
body. It is not so much a deficiency however as that we
have a Vampyr (demigod) Soul which is difficult to
contain in a Human shell so we feed from our Human shell
but also must feed on other sources of energy as well as
keep our Human shell healthy.
Because we are in Human bodies and Human energy
is the most powerful living energy source that is what we
need to feed on to lead healthier lives than we normally
would. We have more of the terminology at the end of
this book. Our community seems to not be able to agree
on whether being a Vampyr is a spiritual condition, a
virus, mutation or what have you but most seem to want
to treat it as a curse rather than a positive thing. I
realize we have difficulties like any race or species but
we have more abilities than the average person so I fully
embrace what I am…

Loved your explanation of this. I "awakened" a decade ago and I still fin that I am learning new things and better ways of existing. I generally don't broadcast this fact to others because I have developed control so there is really no need but it's nice to see others that are highly educated on this speaking out.
I'm reasonably sure that I have no powers but I definitely catch a sad streak from being around depressed people. It seems like there is no law of conservation of emotions, ie taking on someone else's burden seldom relieves them of the strain proportionately to how it affects you.
I will step in and answer this.
Yes that is possible but then you wander into the realm of empathy and empaths.
Actually yes. Being around someone that is sad, suffering, depressed, in pain, or ill can be very overwhelming. That's why many Vampires choose to use their gifts to help others that are in these situations. Many of us choose the path of healers for this very reason. It's very similar to Reiki or a "laying of hands" type of healing tradition, although many of us can also provide the same results from a distance of many miles away without ever touching the person. Also, a rather large percentage of us tend to gravitate toward professions that involve helping those in mental distress as well as social workers, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, marriage counselors, life coaches...and the list goes on and on. Being able to sense a persons internal conflicts and emotions, as well as occasionally getting glimpses their specific train of thought can be extremely helpful in one's ability to assist others and help them through difficult times. No one likes to feel alone, everyone wants to feel understood. We just so happen to be a bit more adept at that.
i liked the article i thought it was very interesting with loads of information.ty
Honestly, I've been on the fence about this stuff for years. On one hand, I'm a very spiritual person, and I believe everyone requires and uses different energies as simple as carbohydrates and as complex as psychic energy, and on the other, every single person who I've met who indulges in this vampire stuff has been super-needs-to-be-institutionalized-crazy, or young and really stupid.
Not to say that there aren't people out there who don't fit into those categories...Heavens knows I haven't met all the 'vampires' in the world.
I even considered myself to have a problem with energy leeching at one point. And until I realized how completely bonkers some of the people who called themselves 'vampires' were, I thought I was one too. But after a short period of time, I was thoroughly turned off of 'vampires' altogether.
Anywhoo, all that to say; interesting article, but I don't think I could ever comfortably date a 'vampire'.
This disappointed me. It explained vampires, donors, feeding, and that fact that yes, vampires do date. But it talked more about how to become a vampire donor then how to date a vampire. I've been awakened for 6 years and the only guy I ever told I was a vampire was ok with it and even though he had a crush on me we didn't date because I was the one who found him knowing to be awkward =P
Well in the long run the "how" of dating a vampire is the same as dating anyone else. It takes commitment, love, respect, selflessness...and that goes for both parties. Because in the end of it all, we're just people with a few differences.
What if they didn't tell you of their vampiric nature? Then you'd date one and fall in love and live happily ever after.
okay people are getting too into vampires this is kinda ridiculous no vampires exist they just wish they did
I like vampires as much as the next person but thinking you are a real vampire.. is a little extreme dont ya think.
I second this yes and add that an in text I realize this can sound really out there and fantastical but if you look at what it's really saying it's not that hard to grasp.
Let me try to relate this to something we can all understand and all probably do.
Q:If you are feeling down (emotionally) and want a pick me up what do you do or what would most people do?
A: Most people tend to go surround themselves with positive things and people. A night out with your guys and gals laughing and joking can do wonders for the blues.
So with that said is this so fantastical now? Is it so far out there to think some people constantly need or chose to consistently balance themselves and their own energies?
The VEWRS study found that people who self-identify as vampires have surprisingly similar medical profiles as the general population. There are about a dozen conditions which have a higher prevalence in the vampire community (VC), however, none of these rates are more than a percentage point higher. The biggest change (ratiowise) would be hypoglycemia, 5.7% of the general population, 6.8% in the VC.
As for all the people that argue that vampires are just crazy, schizophrenia rates are 2.8 percent amongst the VC, 2.5% in the general population. I don't believe that's statistically significant given the population size and the difficulty of diagnosing schizophrenia.
@Deux; You're actually reading that chart incorrectly. The "orange column" is the vampire community numbers and the "green column" is the standard prevalence rate for the population. The "blue column" just represents the total responses the study (vampires, energy workers, otherkin, etc. all together). So for the percentage spread you'll need to compare orange to green.
I won't go into the blood drink for I take no part in that.
But yes to the searching for a medical condition, however that raise the question is a medical condition causing this or is this causing a medical condition....
No, drinking blood does not change the human body though it does help one who is going through the pangs of needing to feed, especially if they have no other way of feeding due to being strictly sanguinarian. It has been found that there is a difference between the physiological reactions of a Vampire that drinks blood and someone of a non-vampiric nature that drinks blood. Although we don't generally consume large amounts of blood at one time (because it simply is not necessary to), we are capable of consuming much larger amounts then the average person if we so chose. Frankly most people end up have poor physiological reactions to the ingestion of blood including stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea and heartburn.
Many of us are involved in ongoing medical studies in an attempt to help the scientific community find some answers for what we experience. I am one of those that is donating my time to allow my doctors to do a case study on me which includes a regular barrage of tests such as blood panels, MRIs, Cat Scans, X-rays, tests of the endocrine system, the central nervous system, the digestive system, the skeletal system...you name it, they've done it. All tests have come back normal though. There have been extensive psychological evaluations as well to check for psychosomatic causes, I have been found to be perfectly sane, I assure you.
To answer your other question, cow's blood is definitely a viable alternative that many vampires utilize.
Cow's blood really doesn't pack a punch. I've only ever had it in steaks because I'm not going to take it fresh from the cow and I can't find a point to blood that's not fresh. It actually works for you?
No, it doesn't work as well as human blood nor is it as long lasting. You have to drink alot more of it to get the same effect and to be perfectly honest, I'm not terribly fond of beef blood...the taste is just all wrong for me. It'll do the trick in a pinch but for me it is more of a last resort then first choice. I prefer it much fresher as well....as in, still warm. The energy that comes with human blood just jive's with my system much better. I guess you could say it is more compatible. It's not just about taste, in fact that is the least of my worries when it comes to the type of blood that I consume. Of course it is nice when I don't have to gag on it because it tastes like a cow.
It's eaten in the UK too in the form of a dish called black pudding. It's fairly common there actually. You'll find that blood is actually not as unusual to include in one's diet as one would at first think. There are recipes all over the world for traditional dishes that call for blood as one of the ingedients.
Black Pudding, otherwise known as blood sausage, is a dark sausage stuffed with animal blood seasoned and cooked with fillers such as bits of meat, suet, oats, or barley and congealed until solid. Various cuisines around the world incorporate versions of black pudding. The fillers, seasonings, and type of animal blood used vary according to regional tastes and local availability.
