The queen of Mad Men marries her real-life love.
Like most red-blooded Americans, we love Joan Holloway. We love that she's one of the smartest people in Mad Men's Sterling Cooper office. We love that she's not afraid to use the sexist system that subjugates her to her advantage from time-to-time. We love that she's simultaneously world-wise and a little vulnerable.
Yes, we love Joan Holloway. And by default, this means we love Christina Hendricks, the actress who brings her to life. And, at the same time, it also means we can't help but love the guy she chose to marry today (Sunday, October 11) because he must be pretty darn special to have won her heart.
Oh, yeah. Did we mention she got married? She did. At Il Buco restaurant in New York. To Geoffrey Arend, 31, an actor she got engaged to earlier this year. He and Christina, 34, met through her Mad Men co-star Vincent Kartheiser. Their wedding rings are platinum Tacori bands (hers with two rows of diamonds, his engraved). And as Christina puts it, she loves "everything" about him.
"He's considerate, he's thoughtful, he's smart, he takes care of me," she said in July. "He's very, very giving."
Needless to say, we are happy for Christina. We are thrilled that she found someone she can love as much as we love her. And we wish her and Geoffrey the kind of wedded bliss that John Draper and Betty Draper could never achieve, even in their wildest dreams.
